On the first day of the workshop, questions of treatment for cervical cancer were addressed. The main surgical topics included Nerve Sparing Radical Hysterectomy, Total Mesometrial Resection and Radical Trachelectomy. On the 3rd of November, radiation therapy for cervical cancer was discussed and there was a master class in brachytherapy techniques. The Seminar on early detection of breast and cervical cancer in Kazakhstan precceeded the IGCS Workshop (1st November) and in whole, this event was a great opportunity for discussion of both national guidelines for cervical cancer treatment and the treatment options for cervical cancer.
There were 63 participants from all over Kazakhstan. The participants were mostly gynaecologic oncologists (43) and radiologists (20). IGCS-sponsored lecturers included Dr Enis Ozyar from Ankara, Dr. Jens Einenkel, representing Prof. Michael Hoeckel’s team from Leipzig, and Dr. Nicolas Chopen, representing Prof.dr Dennis Querleu’s team from Toulouse. The Workhsop was perfectly organized by Dr Murat Kairbayev, who expressed his great appreciation to all organizers and participants who made this workshop possible, with the hope of having an opportunity to organize a similar meeting in the future.
